10. Take pictures of the accident scene, the vehicles involved, or the substance or dangersous condition that caused your injury.
9. Kindly gather witness names and contact numbers or addresses.
8. Kindly gather employee names that saw your fall, helped you after the fall, or that you spoke with after the fall. Request a copy of the incident report but know they are under no obligation to give you a copy.
7. Keep a journal or calendar and record briefly your symptoms and how they change for the better or worse. Specifically note any new symptoms or restrictions.
6. Keep a log of all time missed from work noting what injury, or restriction kept you from reporting to work. Log the dates of all doctor, physical therapy and like appointments noting how long you were at each and how far you traveled to get to and from the visit.
5. Notify your insurance company immediately of any loss be it automobile, home or other.
4. When you purchase homeowner's insurance, ask your agent about insuring collectibles, firearms, jewelry and antiques. Often times you need to declare such items and perhaps even purchase a rider to cover the items. Take pictures of your home, all screen enclosures and the contents of your home. In short, document what it is you insure. It will help you successfully complete a claim in the event of a loss.
3. Never give a recorded statement, not even a written or oral statement to any insurance company or investigator without first consulting an attorney. Be aware that you have a duty to cooperate with your insurance company to perfect your claim which includes the giving of a statement, but consult an attorney promptly.
2. Never consent if asked by law enforcement to a search of your home or car.
